Every detail matters when it comes to the perfect wedding. From the place cards to the shade of your nails, every bride wants the details to match her dream vision and mood for the big day. Whether you’re an easy, casual bride or an elegant minimalist, your hairstyle should match your wedding board just as much as the floral and the gown.

In this caramel-colored inspiration shoot, Kristina Curtis Photography and a team of beauty pros including Ashley Johnson and Marisa Rose showcase 4 simple wedding hairstyles to accentuate your natural bridal beauty and highlight the style of your big day.

To set the tone: a blend of ivory andromeda and tulips join ranks with blushing roses and fiery ranunculus in a breathtaking bouquet that perfectly matches the romantic vibes coming from the bride’s striking Janay Marie gown.

From elegant to one-of-a-kind, here are 4 simple wedding hairstyles to show off your style on your big day!

1. Romantic Loose Updo

Keep things traditional and dreamy with a bridal classic. This textbook chignon is the ideal do for a bride wanting a romantic, fairytale princess look on her wedding day.

2. Elegant Pony

For the more modern bride, craving clean lines and runway chic flair, a sleek ponytail is in order. Keep things architectural with a stick-straight style, or add a few curls for a softer, elegant take as styled by Ashley Johnson, here.

Simple, casual and perfect for frolicking, this gorgeous twist is the best pick for a bride primed to celebrate by dancing the night away with her love and her dearest friends.

Music to My Ears: DJ Pauly

Shotskis, video booths, cornhole games, afterparties? These days, weddings are so much more than dinner and dancing. Three experts weigh in on how to keep your guests on their toes all night long.

DJPauly has been on the radio since he was a teen. “I love music. At the of age 15, I started my first on-air job in radio.” He’s been making music magic ever since, but he says there’s much more to manning weddings than pressing play. What question should couples ask every DJ they interview?

“Have you had any formal MC or DJ training?” DJPauly says. “Anybody can buy a laptop and some big speakers and call themselves a wedding DJ, but a true Master of Ceremonies will do so much more than playing your favorite jams. Make sure your DJ has enough training or real event experience to read and truly engage with your guests. Request a meeting or video chat with them before you book to see if they’ll be a good fit personality-wise.” djpaulyweddings.com

Pearls and Pearly Whites: Rin & Jackson’s Utah Lake Bridals

Rin and Jackson have known one another since high school and patiently waited for each other while they served their LDS missions: Rin in Arizona and Jackson in Taiwan. Once the two were back in Utah, Jackson decided it was time for the duo to seal the deal. He chose to pop the question at the lantern festival but didn’t even get the chance to finish the question before Rin said “yes!” The pair got married in the Salt Lake Temple on December 28 and celebrated with friends and family at Ember, downtown Salt Lake City.
Photographer Jessa Etheridge of Jessa E Photos had originally planned to shoot the couple at the Great Salt Lake, but when the day of the shoot arrived, there was so much smog that no one could see a thing. Because Rin had expressed a clear vision for the photos to Jessa from day one, Jessa understood the importance of making her client’s ideas come to life. So, a few days after their first attempt, Rin and Jackson donned their nuptial attire once again, Jessa packed up her bags, and the three of them headed to Utah Lake. And we are so glad they did!
From the color of Jackson’s suit mirrored by the blue-gray water to Rin’s rose, blush, and white bouquet echoed by the rosy sunset, Utah Lake flawlessly embodied the color palate chosen by the couple.
Rin’s gown, customized by OffWhite Bride, was a modern take on a classic shape. The addition of a billowing sheer statement sleeve adorned with pearls added a breezy, ethereal element to an otherwise simple gown.
“Rin and Jackson’s bridal session at Utah Lake has become an all time favorite of mine” Jessa says. “I always joke with Rin and Jackson that they have the world’s most perfect smiles. They make my job so easy.”

Sam & Emmalee’s Big Cottonwood Romance

A bit of snow-dusted romance brings the magic to Sam & Emmalee’s big day.

Photos by Jacque S. Photography

Sam and Emmalee met through Emmalee’s best friend who happened to marry Sam’s cousin. Shortly after they met, Sam and Emmalee went on a double date with the newlyweds and hit it off. The two have been inseparable ever since.

Eight months later, Sam took his love up into the mountains for a date. When they arrived, Emmalee looked up and saw that Sam had set up twinkly lights and a candle lit dinner in the snow just for the two of them. After dinner, Sam got down on one knee and asked Emmalee to be his wife and she said yes!

Right before their sealing ceremony, Sam and Emmalee went up to Big Cottonwood Canyon to take their bridal photos. They chose the mountains because they reminded Emmalee of that snowy day in January when Sam proposed.

Afterward, the two were sealed in the Provo Temple in an intimate ceremony accompanied by their closest family and friends.

So, You Have to Postpone Your Wedding… Now What?

A how-to guide for couples whose nuptial plans have gotten a shake-up with the world’s current events.

Edit: Check out What To Expect When You Weren’t Expecting Coronavirus for more tips and specific rescheduling policies from real wedding pros in Utah.

Photos by Duke Moose | @dukemoose

You’re about to get married and COVID-19 has presented you with an unprecedented, rapidly changing, and unclear situation. It’s confusing and frankly discouraging. But we are not about to let all of your hard work go to waste! With some rearranging, patience, compromise and resourcefulness, you can still have the wedding of your dreams – just perhaps on a different day – and here’s how:

Step One: Make a decision.

Decide you’re going to postpone. This one seems obvious but you have a few options here… you could postpone, adjust your plans or move forward (although that last one is probably not advised by the CDC). For this first step, take into consideration the wedding’s location, the number of people that will be attending and the amount of time between now and the wedding itself.

Step Two: Contact your vendors.

Usually we would advise that you take a look at their contracts and figure out their cancellation policies, however because so many vendors are being affected as well, we suggest reaching out to them directly. Try to contact your most important vendors, i.e. venue, caterer, florist, baker and entertainment and work together to figure out your second-best scenario.

Step Three: Contact your MVPs.

Once you get a date that works for your vendors, or at least the majority of them, we recommend reaching out directly to your wedding party, your immediate family, or just the people whose presence is most important to you. If the same dates that work for the vendors work for them, you’re in business!

Step Four: Update your wedding website.

Once you make your decision, you’ll want to update your wedding website. It’s the quickest and easiest way to communicate with the largest number of attendees at once. As you make your decisions, you’ll want to keep your website as up to date as possible. Don’t have a website? We also recommend reaching out directly to your less technologically-savvy guests when you make the big decisions, i.e. date, time, location

Step Five: Breathe a sigh of relief.

Weddings are stressful and you just bought yourself more time to get yours just right. They say hindsight is 20/20 and now you have a little taste of it. Make all those tweaks you wouldn’t have had time to make if the wedding was happening according to your original plan.

Suggestions for a smooth switch:

  1. Try and make your decisions ASAP but don’t jump the gun. You want to give guests and vendors as much time as possible to rearrange their plans but in these uncertain times you also don’t want to solidify a decision too far in advance. For example, if your wedding is mid-July, we’d take a beat, pay attention to the news make a decision as the date gets closer but if your wedding is in two weeks, odds are your vendors have already gotten a head start so get in contact with them ASAP to ensure you don’t incur any additional costs.
  2. Remember a wedding is a celebration of your nuptials and does not necessarily have to take place on the day you legally tie the knot. You can always choose to head to the courthouse and get married legally on your intended wedding day and save the celebration for later!
  3. Don’t let this negatively impact your wedding experience. You are likely only going to get married once. Consciously make sure you’re looking on the bright side. Like we said, a longer planning period often makes for a better wedding!

Katherine and Paul’s Winter Wedding at Blue Sky Ranch

THE COUPLE

Katherine and Paul met through mutual friends and dated a year and a half  before Paul popped the question while the two were vacationing in Italy. “On the last day of our stay, Paul planned to take me on a private boat ride and tour around the islands of Lake Maggiore,” Katherine says. “We were not five minutes into the ride when he asked to take a photo in front of the gardens of Isola Bella. On the bow of the boat, he got down on one knee and proposed.”

THE WEDDING

“Early in our relationship, we ventured up to Park City for a weekend of snowboarding and time together,” Katherine says of the trip that solidified their relationship and later became the locale of their destination winter wedding. During the days leading up to the wedding, their guests played in a variety of ways: snowmobiling, skiing, snowboarding, a spin class at Boom Cycle, spa time at the St. Regis, and trap shooting and whiskey tasting at High West. Their hosted 40-person rehearsal dinner was held at Bill White’s Farm. Blue Sky Ranch hosted the wedding day—a natural fit for the Kentucky-native bride and the groom who spent childhood summers on a family ranch in Northern California.

THE MOOD

“For our winter wedding, we wanted the theme to be whimsical, ethereal and magical,” says Katherine, describing the celebration’s elegant and rustic style. “Every little detail equated to a show-stopping wedding. The Blue Sky barn, the lighting, floral designs and drapery made it all spectacular.” Katherine’s co-workers provided the artwork and paper goods for the couple’s signage. Shotskis and glow-in-the-dark props amped the festivities.

THE CUISINE

“Culinary Crafts worked with me and Paul to create an unbelievable menu that really catered to our exact needs and desires,” Katherine says. The menu featured duo-petite entrees of Rocky Mountain red trout with Utah green apple chutney and beef tenderloin with shallot pan sauce, served with carrot bundles, browned butter and sage gnocchi with Utah corn and wild mushrooms. “Paul is a dessert aficionado, and we decided that instead of a cake, we would just have desserts for people to pick and choose and have all the options they wanted.”

THE TUNES

“Groove Merchants was an absolutely amazing band. We had the best time and everyone spent the night on the dance floor. Had they continued to play, people would have stayed until 5 a.m. dancing! I still have people telling me today how unbelievable the band was the entire night,” Katherine says. The newlyweds chose Clint Black’s “When I Said I Do” for their first dance.

THE HONEYMOON

The couple honeymooned six months after the wedding. “We went to Uganda, Kenya and Mauritius,” Katherine says. “We spent the first four days of our honeymoon in Uganda and Kenya as part of a mission group visiting and helping certain ministries that are tied to our church including Loving Hearts Babies Home and Free Wheelchair Mission.”

The New Bohemian at Light Loft Studio

The inspiration all started with the bouquet. When photographer Jackie Siggard laid eyes on this massive collection of lush florals with soft pink hues, she knew that she wanted to do a shoot centered around the blooms. The result was a stunning luxury photoshoot with ample amounts of romance.

“I wanted to do more of a luxury styled shoot,” Siggard says. “I had seen a gorgeous bouquet and wanted to style a shoot around that with soft pinks as the colors.”

From there the inspiration ran wild. With the Light Loft Studio as a perfect canvas to create in, Siggard curated a wall of colorful hanging rugs as a backdrop with the bouquet always in full view. A mix of classic modern romance and bohemian edge meet in the bride’s gown: traditional, intricate lace in a romantic silhouette with an overlay of gossamer tulle.

Siggard added yet another twist to the shoot with the inclusion of bridesmaids. “No bride is complete without her maids by her side for the big day,” says Siggard.

From the blushing bridesmaids gowns to the watercolor paper trousseau, Siggard used a soft pink color palette to tie every last detail together, with the colorful backdrop making the happy couple pop.

Sydney and Garrett’s Sunday in the Park with Em & Co.

Sydney and Garrett

Liberty Park, Salt Lake City

Photos by Em & Co. Photography

Whether you’re newlyweds or longtime loves, seeing your partner dressed to the nines is a great reminder of just how good you’ve got it. On a rainy day last January, Utah photographer, Emma Dunn- of Em & Co. Photography – had the chance to witness that magic from behind her camera lens.

Garrett and Sydney have been married for five years now, but according to Emma, the way Garrett looked at Sydney when he saw her in a wedding dress would’ve made you think he was watching her walk down the aisle. The couple’s backdrop – Liberty Park – had been completely cleared out because of the rain, which allowed Emma’s sole focus to be on how in awe Garrett is of his wife and the love Garrett and Sydney share with one another.

Lexi Rabelo – of Lexi Rabelo Films – styled Garrett and Sydney’s dreamy urban shoot with enough tonal contrast to create an air of drama while maintaining the couple’s natural elegance. By choosing primarily understated tones with occasional pops of muted rose and green, Lexi was able to make the billowing crimson smoke bomb that appeared as a backdrop in some of the shots even more striking.

This shoot’s biggest success was its capacity to capture Garrett and Sydney meaningfully and honestly while incorporating props as a means to elevate and add interest to the photos.
