Real Wedding: Cari & Mark

Focused on fun, music and food, Cari and Mark orchestrated a destination wedding weekend set among the simple beauty of Park City’s changing season.

Austin residents Cari and Mark met at a going-away party for a mutual friend. The two had been dating four years when Mark proposed to Cari while boating on Austin’s Lake Travis. While Cari swam with their dogs, Mark set up a surprise on deck: Cari’s favorite charcuterie, cheeses, floewrs and a bottle of old vine Zinfandel from a recent Napa trip. “I remember climbing up the boat ladder and it smelling so good,” Cari says. “It didn’t register right away, but he dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him.”

“My brother moved to Utah several years ago, so my parents, Mark and I met in Park City each winter to ski,” Cari says. “We love everything about Park City, and Deer Valley Resort had everything we needed including cozy, cabin-like accommodations, amazing views, beautiful trails and spectacular food.”

Real Wedding: Suzie & Andy

Relying on the pristine beauty of a natural mountain setting, Suzie and Andy—with her five-year-old son and his loyal golden retriever next to them—married during a magical December snowfall.

susie_andy_wedding_film_0001

“We thought people who fall in love quickly and know [they’re meant for each other] must be at least a little nuts,” says bride Suzie. “But here we are.” After meeting on Tinder and dating a mere two months, marriage was on the horizon. Internet marketer Andy teased school teacher Suzie with a Ring Pop on every date until so many candy rings accumulated, Suzie finally joked, “These don’t actually fit on my finger.” At that moment, Andy surprised her with a diamond ring and said, “You can try it on for size if you’ll marry me.”

When bride and groom are both from families of eight siblings, a small wedding is out of the question. Pairing long farmhouse tables with classic rounds offered plenty of seating inside Sundance Resort’s large Rehearsal Hall. Suzie’s ceremony entrance with her five-year-old son proved quite grand. “We walked down the outdoor deck so our guests could see us through the barn-door windows,” Suzie says. “Then we entered a side door before coming down the aisle.”

In the Life: Karley Parker

STYLE

I spent most of my upbringing in Alpine, UT and have been fortunate enough to travel extensively throughout my youth and adulthood. I’ve taken a little piece of every city with me through things such as a souvenir, a piece of clothing or a simple sketch done while people watching.

My mother is an artist and always filled our house with books, art, collections and history that highly influenced me. I’ve always been drawn to things of the past and mixing them with my present.

I have a hard time describing my style because it is so ingrained in me. I know what I like and I know what I don’t like and have always given myself room to grow and change.

If I had to narrow it down, as much as I like basics and neutral colors I think my true self will always be drawn to a floral print dress.

BEAUTY

I don’t really know a lot about makeup or like to wear it but I do love mascara by Chanel and blush by Bobbi Brown. When it comes to skincare I don’t like to put a lot on my face but I do use Kiehl’s face lotion.

My favorite perfume is Olene by Diptyque Paris. It smells like wisteria on my skin and is intoxicating to me. I also have a candle that is ‘lilac in rain’ and is heaven.

If I’m going out I will usually throw on some lipstick, a dress and try to actually do my hair. I love lipstick; it instantly makes me feel fancy. I’m not really keen on nail polish. Dinner, drinks & dancing with my boyfriend are what I’m happiest doing.

OFF DUTY

I love to paint with watercolor or acrylic, I am currently showing my botanical series at Diabolical Records downtown. I also play shows there and other venues with the band I’m in, Muzzle Tung. I try to read as much as I can, I have a degree in English Literature so books will always be my first love.

I’ve tried to learn to leave work at work since weddings can be very mentally taxing. One thing I have learned is to trust my instinct and eye for color, shape and style and have been lucky enough to work with some amazing brides that have completely trusted me to execute their wedding based on my taste combined with their vision.

Real Wedding: Sheena & Bryan

A New York state-of-mind brought these two Utah natives together. With the right mix of rustic and elegance, Sheena and Bryan melded city and country flair to create a refined mountainside retreat.

Though they were both raised in Utah, they met in New York through a close friend. Sheena was interning at W magazine and Bryan was in his second year at NYU Law School. They met their very first weekend in the city and were friends for a year before they started dating. According to Bryan, “It was right away. The moment I laid eyes on her.” For Sheena, it was a little harder to pinpoint. “He’s quite the package deal—attractive, intelligent, outgoing, romantic, kind and the list goes on. My love for him has continued to grow.”

Bryan proposed on August 31st. “The perfect way to end the summer,” Sheena recalls. After a romantic dinner, Bryan unexpectedly suggested a walk toward Washington Square Park. They reminisced about their time together and the moments they had shared through the years. The two then sat on a park bench where Bryan got on one knee and asked Sheena to marry him.

Real Wedding: Liza & Matt

Liza and Matt invite families and friends from both coasts to converge in the Uinta Mountains for a rustic and sweetly elegant celebration.

076erinkatephoto_LizaMattWedding

The outdoorsy couple from San Fransisco met on Match.com. The match was set and after dating five years, Matt couldn’t wait to propose, so he popped the question as Liza was washing dishes in their apartment. “The ring had arrived that morning via courier and he planned to propose while we were skiing in Jupiter Bowl Park City later that week,” Liza says. “He got too excited, so he did it that day.”

“We are avid skiers, but took up biking, hiking and fly fishing once we got to know Utah a bit more.” Coincidentally, the Uinta Mountains stand as the only major range in the contiguous United States with an east-west orientation and with family and friends coming from both coasts, it became a perfect metaphor for the officiant to highlight. Liza says, “We wanted to share this special place with everyone.”

Real Wedding: Stacey + James

  1. Howd you meet

We met through one of his roommates. I got invited to a BBQ- I was friends with James’ at the time roommate whod invited me to a bbq at theier house and we met when james came home from work that day. We in college when we met.

  1. The next week we began dating and 18 months later we were married. I trapped him that next week and I did not let go. It was basically love at first sight. We got stuck and it worked for us.
  2. Proposal we knew we were going to elope. We’d told our parents and siblings that we were going to elope. We had date set but no proposal yet. Jellyfish, we’d never been to theloveland aquarium. I saw his brother ben, stacey stay put. OH This is happening in the jellyfish exhibit at the aquaruiam.

I had such a blonde moment, it took forever for me to realize what was happening.

I said yes right away. He builds furniture for interior designers. I was working with my dad, but he told me that he had a business meeting. But, I found out later that it was a meeting that james asked for my hand in marriage.

My dad wholeheartedly loved and supported our relationship and marriage.

I had a wedding to wear that dress. I knew i was ready to get married wehen I saw my dress on instagram.

We eloped after we got engaged, we didn’t wear conventional wedding attire. But we knew we would have a friends and family ceremony so that we could celebrated everyone.

My mom and I went to San Francisco to the boutique that carried the brand of this dres. I tried it on first and I tried on a few others, but I knew that one was my dress. We ordered it and it got delayed. I didn’t even get my dress until 6 days before my wedding. The first time I even bridezillad. I can’t even descreibe the meltdown I was habing for that week.

The location alta peruvian lodge, decorations. My parents and I did that.

Wedding day, James drove me up and we parted ways.

James and I like to march to the beat of our own drum . Acoustic reggae song, is it love by bob marley. Everyone was so surprised. James had so many groomsmen that they had to pair up with one another. I didn’t have enough bridesmaids.

We are going on our honeymoon next month. Going to Europe for 3 weeks. Going to Amsterdam, Paris, Rome.

My husband is part of Sigma Chi. Majority of groomsmen so they sang the sweetheart song to me, the fraternity. Only gets sung to a particular group of women.
