The engaged man: touring The Gathering Place at Gardner Village
by Jaime Winston

The Gathering Place at Gardner Village is one of the top spots we’re thinking of for our fall wedding. We were kind of unsure at first because they’ve never actually had a Jewish wedding, but they also seem to be offering us a lot of freedom in the planning… if we do decide on it.

It’s beautiful that time of year, and since we’re having so many out-of-town guests, it’s a great spot for Uncle John and Aunt Donna to pick up souvenirs at the shops before the ceremony. Plus, rehearsal dinner at Archibald’s.

Two-thirds of the main room at The Gathering Place holds 250 people or less, which is more than enough for us. To find the approximate amount of  guests coming, we were told to use this equation: number of invitations x 2 / 4. But probably the best advice we’ve gotten is just to have people send back RSVPs.

And who wouldn’t want to RSVP for a wedding at The Gathering Place. Look at it:

If you’re planning to have your wedding here, the night time is the right time.

Imagine this without the snow. Since Jewish weddings involve a lot of dancing, drinking, and picking people up in chairs, we’d probably save the inside area for the party immediately following the ceremony out here.

Great for a dinner reception, or you could clear some space for a dance floor. They told us our DJ would have many places to plug in here, and they do their own catering (no outside food allowed, except for favors and the cake).

The picture frame that’s here can go, along with the lamp if you choose. They recommended this as a space to put a display related to the couple, like the engagement photos. In our case, it might be the ketubah.

Please share any experiences you’ve had at The Gathering Place, good or bad, in the comments below.
