Heidi & Dave

Heidi and Dave decided one day wasn’t enough to celebrate their love affair, so they hosted a four-day wedding weekend.

The festivities started Thursday with a garden party for 200 guests at Heidi’s parents’ home.

The fête included special details like a floral arrangement with more than 1,000 roses and fun for guests of all ages with a “kids’ menu,” a cotton candy machine and a colorful popcorn station.

The weekend continued with a welcome party for out-of-town guests on Friday on the patio at Snowbird Resort, where friends and family enjoyed cocktails and appetizers under the stars.

On Saturday, guests enjoyed the amenities at Snowbird during the day before taking a shuttle that night to La Caille for a lavish wedding. The whirlwind weekend concluded with a farewell brunch on Sunday at Snowbird.

Before the Wedding

OCCUPATIONS: Dave is an advertising salesman and Heidi is a corporate recruiter.
HOW THE COUPLE MET: Dave and Heidi first met and dated in high school. After several months of “puppy love” they broke up, but, destined to be together, they met again 20 years later and fell in love.
HOW HE PROPOSED: Dave enlisted the help of Heidi’s mom and twin sister Heather to decorate Heidi’s house while Dave treated her to a special spa day and dinner. When Heidi returned home, she walked into a room filled with dozens of roses, candles, chocolate-covered strawberries and Dave on bended knee.
BRIDAL SHOWER THEMES: Wine-tasting party for friends at Bambara Restaurant in downtown Salt Lake, and a family shower with a home/kitchen theme.
BACHELORETTE PARTY: The girls went VIP style with a “Fun, Sun and Spa” weekend at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas.

Wedding

THE BRIDE WORE: A white strapless Maggie Sottero gown
THE GROOM WORE: An espresso tuxedo by Clarks Tuxedos
WEDDING MUSIC: A string quartet played during the ceremony.
WEDDING SONG: “I Believe” by Chicago; the couple chose this song because it was “their” song when they dated in high school.

Reception

PLACE: Grand Pavilion at La Caille
RECEPTION MUSIC: DJ Mitch Ross
MENU: Passed hors d’oeuvres during cocktails and a seated dinner catered by La Caille.
CAKE: Pink fondant cake decorated with a “fireworks” motif.
FLOWERS: “Hot princess” roses, nerines, calla lilies, cymbidium orchids and dendrobium orchids.
COLORS: Espresso and chocolate brown, raspberry and kiwi green.
DECOR ELEMENTS: After being the “planner” for so many other weddings, Heidi knew she wanted to incorporate special details that showed her creativity, style and design. The ceremony, cocktail hour and reception each had their own look and feel, but remained harmonious. While the garden ceremony was classic and romantic, guests then moved to a hip outdoor urban lounge for passed hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. For the reception, guests entered the Grand Pavilion to a dramatic statement: a 12-foot-tall flower wall adorned with dangling crystals, and colorful tables topped with custom hot-pink and chocolate linens, clusters of candles and striking flower arrangements including large centerpieces of floating rose bouquets.
UNIQUE DETAILS: A “Something Borrowed, Something Blue” specialty drink menu, a five-foot custom s’mores station, a cupcake tower with custom monogrammed cupcakes, a popcorn station with popcorn in the wedding colors, a candy station with custom take-out boxes, sparklers and hot-pink engraved matchbooks for the couple’s send-off, monogrammed water bottles, and “His” and “Her” flip-flops in the wedding colors for guests with tired dancing feet. The couple used a custom monogram design on all of the wedding papers, as well as on individual water bottles, candy take-out boxes and goody bags for overnight guests.

Most memorable moment

HEIDI'S ANSWER: “Walking into the reception as husband and wife and seeing all my family and friends enjoying our special day. The night just got better and better as the party went on, and I knew that not only had all my wedding ideas been pulled off successfully, but most important, I was with the man I loved.”
DAVE'S ANSWER: “As Heidi started walking down the stairs and I saw her in the wedding dress, I was taken aback by how breathtaking, beautiful and happy she looked. I was so excited to know that this woman was all mine!”

Bride’s day, hour-by-hour

9 a.m.–Woke up at Snowbird.
10 a.m.–Met with bridesmaids for breakfast and gave them their gifts: matching chocolate jog suits to wear to La Caille and matching shoes to wear for the wedding.
Noon–Frantically gathered things and headed down the canyon for hair and makeup appointments.
1 p.m.–Stopped to get gas after coasting down the canyon on empty.
3 p.m.–Ran cell phone battery dead calling Dave and others at La Caille to get updates on the progress of the setup.
4 p.m.–Even more frantic, headed to La Caille to meet the wedding party for a quick rehearsal.
5 p.m.–The bridal party sneaked away for finishing touches.
6 p.m.–Wedding ceremony began.
6:30 p.m.–Drinks and hors d’oeuvres served to guests in the urban lounge while the couple had pictures taken.
7 p.m.–Dinner and dancing began.
11 p.m.–After a departure filled with sparklers, rose petals and festive goodbyes, left in the getaway car and went to Snowbird for the evening and to host a farewell brunch the next morning.

Groom’s day, hour-by-hour

8 a.m.–Woke up and had breakfast at Snowbird with son Chase and daughters Amanda and Monica.

9 a.m.–Left the resort and went to Heidi’s house with brother and groomsman Matt to load up a trailer of things to take to La Caille, including custom-made benches, pillows, monogrammed water bottles, candy for the candy station, glass vases, candles and flip-flops—and maybe the kitchen sink.

10 a.m.–Kept nerves in check by supervising the production at La Caille and hanging with son Chase.

2 p.m.–Went back to Snowbird to shower and get ready for the ceremony.

3 p.m.–Returned to La Caille with groomsmen to prepare for the rehearsal. (So much for relaxing!)

4 p.m.–Waited for Heidi to start the rehearsal and then spent the rest of the night enjoying it as she did.

Honeymoon

PLACE: Kona, Hawaii

A MEMORABLE MOMENT: “We lucked out and stayed in an 8,000- square-foot house at the Four Seasons Resort of Kona. The house was absolutely amazing! We enjoyed the beach, spa, a catamaran ocean trip, lots of good dinners and our own infinity pool. But we also had some of our closest friends join us the last few days of the trip, and it was fun to be able to share such a special place with them, too.”
