In Case You Missed It: Bridal Hair Styles

May 15, 2009 - 09:36 AM

Not sure how to style your tresses for the big day? Check out these pretty wedding day hair-do's from our online feature "The Mane Event."

The style: Hippie knots

How to get it: Pull a section of hair out on each side of your head, twist each section back, and secure the sections with a half knot, followed by a double knot. Add fresh wildflowers to complete the free-spirited look.

Wear it with: A soft, Grecian-inspired dress with a delicate choker or layers of loose necklaces.

The style: Modern chignon

How to get it: Pull hair into a ponytail at the nape of your neck. Take a piece of hair from the ponytail and wrap it around the base of the ponytail. Curl the rest of the hair under with a curling iron, wrap under like a barrel curl at the base of the ponytail, and cross over with pins to secure. Use sparkly hair clips for an added dose of drama.

Wear it with: A simple, sleek dress or a dress with a jacket or a wrap—your hair will be off your neck so a collar won’t get in the way. Hairpins from Got Beauty, SLC.

The style: Basic French twist with side-swoop fringe

How to get it: Pull out a front section of hair to create the side-swoop fringe. Tease hair starting where you separate the fringe at the front of the crown, and backcomb the rest of your hair. In back, take half of the hair and pin it at the nape of your neck. Pull hair up one side of your head, cross-pinning as you go, to create a foundation for the twist. Smooth out the other side, twist around the pins and roll all the hair together into a French twist. Top with a tiara, headband or piece of pretty ribbon.

Wear it with: A princess ballgown for a classic look, or a tea-length cocktail dress for a ’50s retro look. Headband from Alta MODA Bridal Boutique, SLC.
