Aly & Ben {Real Utah Wedding}

Mar 1, 2010 - 09:48 AM

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a nice weekend. I thought we'd kick the week off (and start the month—can you believe it is March 1st?!) with Aly and Ben's classic, elegant wedding in Memory Grove captured by Anna Page Photography.

Aly and Ben met in Logan while working together at a restaurant during a summer between college at Utah State University. They started out as friends, but there was too much chemistry to deny. By summers end, their friendship blossomed into love. As Aly's 21st birthday approached, the couple took a drive to Silver Lake up Big Cottonwood Canyon. They walked around the lake, happy and holding hands; when they paused for a break in a sunny spot, Ben hugged Aly, told her how much he loved her, dropped to one knee and asked her to marry him. Needless to say, it was Aly's best birthday to date. The couple wed in September at Memory Grove Park in SLC, followed by a reception at Memorial House.

 Aly wore a Maggie Sottero strapless gown with a corseted back in antique ivory. The dress was adorned with dozens of small crystals, pearls and lace fashioned in an asymetrical pattern. Ben wore a black tux with an ivory shirt, vest and tie. The wedding party included Nancy Phibbs (Aly's grandma and best friend—how sweet is that?), Shae Jensen (Aly's best friend since grade school), flower girl Hannah Anderson (Aly's sister), Nick Jackson (Ben's brother), Chase Anderson (Aly's brother) and ring bearer Kaleb Anderson (Aly's brother).

The feel of the wedding was timeless and classic—Aly wanted the wedding to be in style for years to come. The decor featured a red, black and ivory color palette. Table and chair linens were ivory, while centerpieces consisted of deep crimson flowers on top of antique silver vases with candles lit around the bases. Aly's bouquet was made up of white roses, and bridesmaids carried bouquets of red roses. Similar red floral pomanders lined the wedding aisle during the ceremony.

The reception featured plenty of food, music, dancing and fun. The couple swayed to Norah Jones' "Come Away With Me" for their first dance. For the father-daughter dance, Aly and her dad planned a fun surprise: the two started out dancing to Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" but the music quickly changed to Soulja Boy's "Superman" and Aly and her dad tore up the dance floor!

Aly and Ben share their most memorable moments from the big day...

Aly: "When I was walking down the aisle I looked up and saw Ben was wiping a tear from his eye. When I reached the altar, he held my hand and rubbed it softly and never took his eyes off mine. It was one of the clearest moments I have ever had. Everyone else seemed to disappear."

Ben: "When I watched the car pull up to the bridge and I heard Aly's song start playing that I picked out for her to walk down the aisle to ('If You Believe," by Jim Brickman). I watched she and her dad walk across the bridge and down the aisle, and then her dad said he gave her hand to me in marriage. I took her hand and looked into her eyes and knew it was right.

Aly's wedding advice: "Don't be afraid to let your family and friends help you. I was a super control freak and wanted to be in charge of every detail. I quickly realized that I couldn't take on that much by myself and gave to-do lists for those who wanted to help. It saved my sanity and made my wedding day much less stressful."

Congratulations Aly & Ben! Thank you Anna Page for sharing their wedding photos!
